The Sounds of the Season: PTAG’s Caroling Nights

The Guild announces the 2nd Annual Caroling Nights in December. Caroling over this festive season is a chance for PTAG to enjoy some fellowship and Holiday cheer with all our theatre friends, while still getting to perform.

The troupe will be making the rounds on the following dates: Friday, December 16 from 7pm to 9pm; Sunday, December 18 from 2pm to 4pm and on Wednesday, December 21 from 7pm to 9pm. The singers will be canvassing a different neighborhood in the Punxsutawney borough each session. The troupe includes Guild members, participants and their families each equipped with a handy dandy little caroling songbook. Accompanied only by a pitch pipe the group will harmonize a selection of traditional carols and songs as it winds down the streets of town.

Caroling Nights was a joyous time in 2021, the first venture out, that we decided to do it again this year. Singing “Silent Night,” O’ Come All Ye Faithful,” etc. no matter how chilly the evening warmed the hearts of the troupe. It also was good vocal practice as we have not been able to stage a musical in a while. The only change to the routine is that we decided to advertise that we’d be out and about this year.

Some of us remember years ago, under the direction of the late Chris Wasylyshyn, PTAG’s Touring Company. Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas an ensemble of singers would gather and perform a Holiday program to civic and social groups that would book the troupe. We performed for church programs, ladies clubs and at Jeff Tech’s annual dinner for a number of years. This Caroling Nights now replaces that troupe as a way to keep out name out there and to get a little performance in before the end a year.

So, if you hear some familiar Christmas songs outside your door this year it just might be the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild spreading some Holiday cheer. Happy Holidays to all.
